These Arms

These arms that hold you

Carry you

Rock you to and fro

Lift you in the light

Comfort you in the night

Though they be mine

They are yours

They won't always feed you

Or put you to bed

Or raise you to touch

That which dazzles your eyes

But wherever you go

Whoever you are

These arms will be reaching for you

One day

You will have to help them

Lift a glass to my lips

Pick out which pill I need

Write my name

Wave goodbye

But they will always

Support you

Until then

Take these arms

As shelter

Refuge for your tears

Armor for the dark

Comfort in the cold

To provide the glow

The smirks and the howls

The first place you turn

To express your joy

Recover your glint

Your Knight

Your jester

Your chaperone

Your shepherd

Your chef

Your taster

Your dance partner

Your coach

Your craziest

Most loyal

Unshakeable fan

Your unspectacular

Embarrassing

Unstable

Insecure

Devoted

Adoring

Dad
